Field of Generations by |
SYNOPSIS
The clouds of time creep across the field of generations leaving one row of golden grain illuminated by the sun a while and then move on to give another row its time to shine.
Every generation of women has struggled to obtain their individual rights. This novel traces some of those earlier generations. Elizabetha realizes her dream to marry Martin Kimberlin only to find her freethinking challenged by his religious piety and her life complicated by her best friend's husband. Olive Blakemore, a Cherokee, strives for her family's acceptance into white society. After tragedy strikes, she must find the strength to begin her life anew. Susannah Blakemore raises Jacob Kimberlin, the son of her friend who dies in childbirth, along with her own children and finds a way to cope with the devastating death of the husband she adores. The Blakemore daughter, Olivia, loves Jacob throughout their childhood. After they marry, she struggles to deal with Jacob's bitterness from the Civil War. Their trek to Texas for a new life brings unforeseen perils. Mamie Blakemore mothers the daughters of her cousin Emmet Kimberlin after his devastating broken marriage. She is incredulous when he expresses his hope to make her his wife. With their marriage, the two families will become forever bound.
